Easy recipes to make yummy homemade treats for your horse

The Ultimate horse cookie

Ingredients:

  • 1 carrot
  • 1 apple
  • 1 cup molasses or honey
  • 2 ½ cups of oats
  • 2-3 tbsp of vegetable oil

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
  2. Grate the carrot and apple.
  3. Mix together all of the ingredients.
  4. Place large spoonfuls on a baking sheet.
  5. Bake for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Cool for a few hours in the refrigerator.

Carrot treats

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups grated carrots (about 4 large carrots)
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 cup flour
  • optional: ½ cup of your horse's feed or a sweet feed

Directions:

  1. heat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl mix together the carrots, oil, and molasses until combined (she used a mixer to mix everything)
  3. Add the salt, oats, flour and optional feed and stir until it's combined. It will be a sticky, dough-like consistency
  4. Form into small 1-inch size balls with your hands, or use a small metal scoop
  5. Place them on a parchment or sil-pat lined baking sheet and bake for about 20-25 minutes, or until they are golden.

 

No bake cookies

Ingredients:

    • ½ cup peanut butter or sun butter (for peanut allergies)
    • ¾ cup powdered sugar
    • ¾ cup milk
    • 1 cup quick or old-fashioned uncooked oats
    • ¾ cup unsweetened puffed wheat or granola
    • ¼ apple chips crunched into small pieces

Directions:

  1. Measure out ingredients into a large bowl.
  2. Combine peanut butter, sugar and milk, mixing well.
  3. Stir in oats and remaining ingredients.
  4. Drop rounded teaspoonfuls onto wax paper. Let stand until firm.

Carrot/Apple treats

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup grated carrots (about 2 large carrots)
  • 1 cup grated apple (about 1 small apple)
  • 2 tbsp applesauce
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 1 cup oats
  • 1 cup flour (the recipe author used whole wheat)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the carrots, apple, applesauce, and molasses until combined.
  3. Form it into 1 inch sized balls. Place them on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.

Sparkly Flax Snax

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup oats (If you want them to be human edible too, then use Quaker Oats or the like)
  • 1 cup flour
  • ¾ cup flax meal
  • 3 tbsp coconut oil
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ½ cup molasses

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Mix the oats and flour in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Put the flax meal, coconut oil, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon in a food processor and mix together.
  4. Add flour and oats to the mixing bowl.
  5. Add molasses and mix all the ingredients together until they become "dough like".
  6. Spoon tablespoon size balls onto greased cookie sheet.
  7. Sprinkle with edible glitter in the color of your choice. (optional)
  8. Bake for 15 minutes.
  9. Sprinkle with colored sugar. (optional)
  10. Bake an additional 5-10 minutes.
  11. Allow to cool before feeding to horses.

Grain balls

Ingredients:

    • 1 cup sugar or dry molasses (preferred)
    • ⅓ cup light karo syrup
    • 1 cup water
    • ¼ tsp salt
    • 1 tsp vanilla
    • 3 quarts sweet feed (You can use sweet feed, oats, Raging Bear Ranch used a grain and a handful of kettle corn for crunch)

Directions:

  1. Cook first three ingredients to medium-crack stage (280°F by thermometer.)
  2. Add salt and vanilla.
  3. Stir into sweet feed.
  4. Grease hands and shape mixture into balls.
  5. Place on wax paper to set.
