A veterinarian with 25 years experience specializing in treating horses with Laminitis, Ric Redden of Versailles, Kentucky, has written a book that simply explains the nature of the disease, the principles of the equine foot and his protocol for treating this devastating illness. He writes with confidence and clarity, probably in no small part due to his experience as a farrier prior to becoming a veterinarian. Laminitis is a serious problem. Detecting the signs and then knowing how to put the best team together to care for your horse are critical, Redden stresses. He gives the reader the knowledge needed to make the right decisions. Also, where there are differences of opinion in terms of treatment or drugs, Redden presents all sides and then states where he falls on the issue. Some veterinarians who write books sound like they're repeating the textbooks they studied in school. Not Redden. He writes out of his own experience and it makes a world of difference. Since Laminitis can strike any breed of horse, this book is a source of excellent information for all horse owners. It would be hard to find a better book on the subject than this one.
